The 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin is a gold bullion coin struck by the United States Mint from random years of issue. It contains 1 troy oz of .9167 fine gold and is intended as an investment-focused bullion product. The coin carries a face value of $50 in US dollars, backed by the federal government. Introduced in 1986, the American Gold Eagle was the first gold coin issued by the United States in more than 50 years and became the country's official gold bullion coin. Today, 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available online at ITM Trading.
Coin Highlights:
The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' full-length depiction of Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The design dates to 1907, when it first appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle, and remained in use on that coin through 1933.
The reverse carries one of two designs, depending on the coin's year of issue. Coins struck from 1986 through mid-2021 use Miley Busiek's depiction of a family of bald eagles in and around a nest. Coins struck from mid-2021 onward use Jennie Norris' close-up portrait of a bald eagle head.
Gold Eagle coins are struck in 22-karat gold, with a composition of 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver. Because this is a random-year offering, the year of issue and the corresponding reverse design are not guaranteed in advance.
